“Darkness or lack of clarity that clouds the mind.”

Why Bruma?

When we look up the meaning of Bruma (mist or fog in English), we find that among them is darkness or lack of clarity that clouds the mind.

I feel that this description and metaphor fit very well when we start feeling unwell. We feel like we don’t see clearly, we can’t see beyond. As if everything weighs more, overwhelmed.

Sometimes, we see everything dark, poorly lit, without a path or meaning, without a clear vision of reality. Or sometimes we just can’t see it at that moment and that’s okay too.

Sometimes we need darkness, in that darkness lies the light, like a firefly, if it weren’t dark we wouldn’t see it. It is there, in our darkness, where we recognize that something is not right. However, at these times it is difficult for us to see that we are also light and warmth. When we dare to overcome fear and our shadows, we see that there is something more, there are other colours after that fog.

I like to see my work as someone who accompanies you from the same place, we all suffer from the same things and I have also been there. I would like to be that place where you can rest, where you feel safe enough to open up, where you can be yourself. I will accompany you through the mist, so you can see the whole landscape with all its details and colours, so that the mist doesn’t cloud your ability to see clearly, so that you don’t miss anything.

When we observe the mist early over the sea or the mountain, we know that it will disappear in a few hours. Maybe everything still feels and looks grey, but at some point the colours will shine again to give way to a new moment.

Bruma is born from this idea, in a conversation with my mother near the sea. I would love to help you through your Bruma and accompany you to keep walking together.

My Approach

I use a human approach to guide you in finding peace and well-being. My goal is to accompany you in this process of self-knowledge and personal growth, helping you to find the source of your discomfort and promoting the development of new skills and strategies that allow you to face your difficulties in a more adaptive way. We will work from different areas, and it’s important for me that you understand how your nervous system works. I work from a holistic and integrative perspective that includes the mind, emotions, body, and spiritual dimension.

My Education and Training

I studied Psychology at the Complutense University of Madrid. After finishing my degree, I completed a Master’s Degree in General Health Psychology at the International University of La Rioja. I am specialised in sensoriomotor psychotherapy for trauma, emotional intelligence, eating disorders, and third-generation therapies. I have additional training in self-esteem, mindfulness and neurofeedback.

My work is based on an integrative approach, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and compassion-focused therapy and mindfulness. It’s always adapted to the needs of each individual because we are all unique human beings. I continue to learn and develop my skills continuously. I am passionate about this field, and I always strive to stay up-to-date in order to provide an updated service and practical techniques so that you have your toolbox for your daily life.

Story about me

My name is Laura and I currently live in Mallorca by coincidence.

I’ve always felt lost, when I was younger I had no idea about many of my emotions and they made me suffer a lot. Somehow, I became interested in psychology, my inner voice told me it was a “yes,” although I didn’t know why yet. I studied psychology for five years in Madrid, but after finishing my degree, I still felt like I hadn’t found any answers. I knew I wanted to do psychotherapy, but I didn’t feel prepared, I felt like there were still many things I needed to understand.

I went abroad without a direction, to a fairytale city, to Edinburgh. It was grey, dark, where it rains a lot and you barely see the light in winter, but I loved it. It invited me to spend time at home and to reflect. There, finally, I felt seen in my lights and my shadows and there I found myself. It was three years of my life where my deepest process of personal self-discovery began, where I became interested in the more spiritual area and mindfulness. There, for the first time, I worked with disabled people at Community Integrated Care, which changed my way of seeing the world and human beings. It was a very enriching process.

After returning to Spain to continue my training in General Health Psychology, I moved to Gibraltar, a place that undoubtedly left a mark on my heart. There, I was the clinical coordinator of a dementia centre (Meddoc Health Care). Working with older people was one of the most beautiful gifts of my experience. I have been fortunate enough to work from all perspectives of life and to listen to lessons and learnings that have enriched me personally and professionally. Years later, I moved to Alicante and worked in an international centre for eating disorders (Rise Treatment Centre) as a psychotherapist and in a multidisciplinary team in a day hospital in Benidorm (Espiral Centro terapéutico). I have ended up living in Mallorca where I was born. I never actually lived here; I moved when I was very young, where it all began. Life surprises us in many ways. I find myself working in international clinics like (The Balance Luxury Rehab) and (Mind Body Medicine) on the island, in both English and Spanish languages, and now starting my own project with great enthusiasm (Bruma psychology). I consider myself fortunate to have learned so much from so many different places and multicultural environments. It is a part of me, my essence, and I wanted to share it with you as my path of learning has brought me here, to who I am. Psychologists are our own tool of work, and we need to polish ourselves, get to know ourselves and find ourselves. All these experiences have filled me as a professional, but above all as a person. I have gradually overcome many of my fears. The best decisions of my life have been made with fear, and they have led me to the best experiences, to practise, since for me, knowledge only becomes wisdom when it is practised and experienced. This is what I have been integrating over the years to know our wonderful and complex inner world. I have realised that, accompanying from the heart and with that compassionate look, where they see us this way, we heal. This is my approach and the psychology I practise. I would love to accompany you where it hurts, where we have not dared to look yet, where you most need to be seen and accompanied.

My way of accompanying and values

  • For me, closeness is something important. You are not just someone, you are someone who is suffering. Our nervous systems are connected, and I feel and perceive your pain. We are human and we deserve that closeness in our difficult moments.
  • I don't have absolute truth or all the answers. My job is to accompany you in discovering yours and to give you the right tools.
  • I believe that you already have value simply for BEING yourself. Validating what we feel and who we are is crucial.
  • I consider that we all need to be seen in our pain, to be seen as the person behind all the defense mechanisms we have used to survive. A compassionate look in those moments is healing.
  • For me, showing authenticity during the process is also important. Showing our authentic version both in our good moments and in our not-so-good moments. Authenticity as a revolutionary act of self-love.

Testimonials

I began my sessions with Laura last year, when I sought help for depression and anxiety. Since we have been working together, I have learned a tremendous amount about myself, and why I do the things I do. This has helped me process a lot of trauma, and I am able to use the tools she has taught me, and continues to teach me, to take the steps to improve my life. Laura has a delightful manner which makes a hard process just a little bit easier. She is tenacious and caring, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking to recognise and change harmful patterns. (Sarah)
I had experience of being Laura’s patient for 6 months. Apart from friendly atmosphere she offers effective technics and specifically with Laura’s approach it was easier for me to follow the treatment plan and results were amazing. It’s a great professional, with perfect communication skills and technics. After every session with Laura I feel relieved and ready to work on myself with recommendations she gave.  (Daria)
